0 Bangladesh Unveils Doel Laptop, Soon Will Hit The Market

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the most wanted Doel Laptop at a ceremony in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.We were eagerly waiting for that laptop.

In my Previous Post i showed you the configuration of Doel Laptop.

Telephone Shilpa Sangstha(TSS) sometimes called TESIS in Bangla, Established in 1967, currently manufactures telephone sets only. It, however, has started manufacturing laptops and also plans to make mobile phone handsets.

"This is a big step towards building a digital Bangladesh. When villages get laptops at a cheaper price they will be connected to the internet and that will bring lots of benefits," TESIS managing director Mohammad Ismail told.

At first, the laptop will be given to various government departments. But later on it will be made available to the public and to millions of students.

Md. Ismail also said that, at this moment Bangladesh is producing 10% of the components for the laptop and the other products are imported from Malaysia actually in collaboration with Dhaka-based 2M Corporation and Malaysian TFT Technology. "But within six months we will be able to produce 60% of the components," he said.

The government in collaboration with the Chinese government has taken a project to provide 3G (third generation) mobile services in the country, the prime minister said on that ceremony. We are waiting for that too. Without Internet connection, the using of laptop may be difficult. When the 3G service is available, more than 17 lakh subscribers of state-run mobile operator Teletalk would get high-speed communication services, while 48 lakh users would get 2.5G services, Hasina said.

Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, telecom minister, Hasanul Haque Inu, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the telecom ministry, and Sunil Kanti Bose, telecom secretary, also spoke on the occasion.
